How I got started..
Living a healthy lifestyle was influenced by my mother at a very young age with trips to the gym since I can remember, and by enrolling me in a variety of sports until I found one that fit me. My dad is extremely athletic as well. He is well known for his accomplishments through baseball and basketball in his high school and college years. My dad even had a spot to play on the Blue Jays professional baseball team, but ended up getting sick and losing that spot. My mom went to culinary school and taught me a lot about clean eating to support my athletic figure. As a young child, I played softball, gymnastics, did karate, and all kinds of dance. Gymnastics was the sport that stuck with me over the years. I loved to perform my “tricks” everywhere. I would spend hours in my front lawn doing gymnastics, and would stay up doing crunches before bed. When I got to high school, I decided to try out for cheerleading. I cheered all through high school and was always front and center with my strong tumbling and enthusiastic personality. At football games, I would get an adrenaline rush when the fans would count the number of flips I did down the field.
After high school, I started working at World Gym, as a receptionist. I worked out all the time, doing mostly cardio. I did not really know how to structure a workout plan or use most of the machines for that matter. I maintained my gymnastics muscle. A friend/ co- worker suggested to me one day that I should compete. I didn’t know too much about this, but he explained it to me, and I decided it sounded like a good idea. I then trained harder than ever and learned how to follow a structured meal plan. I started seeing changes in my body that I never thought would be possible and I loved it! I competed in my home town at the time in the NPC Mr. Ms. Buffalo Competition and I placed 3rd in Figure Open.
As I learned more about the sport, I discovered the fitness category. I watched a few routines, and instantly fell in love. In buffalo, I didn’t quite have the resources I needed to do this, so I made a big decision to move to Houston. Aside from my own training, I work as a personal trainer, helping others reach their goals as I achieve my own. I found a well known choreographer; Hoss Choreography who helped me put together an awesome routine!
In April 2013, I competed in the Texas Shredder Classic and in May I competed in the Ronnie Coleman and I won overall fitness and 1st in Teen figure category at both shows. After that I did my first national level show at the end of May in Charleston, SC and placed second. Still striving for my pro card, I will go on to Compete in Team Universe July 5th & 6th 2013!
I’m working out 6-7 days a week. I incorporate an hour of cardiovascular endurance exercises and 30-45 minutes weight lifting. I supplement 1 meal a day with the great tasting Fit Whey and take the Lipo-Tropix fat burner twice a day, while continuing my fitness schedule and clean eating. I’m proud to represent such an innovative, and health conscious company, Merrikh Medical!
